San Francisco

San-Fran-waterfall, originally uploaded by Lovewine.

This photo represents the time spent in SF.....a blur. So much good food, wine and weather. The trip was short but fun. So much wine..so little time. Now we're back home and it snowed on Sunday.

Burlesque Show

burlesque show 138 (3), originally uploaded by avrellfox.

The resurgence of Burlesque is widespread and Nelson had a little taste a while back. My friend Avril Fox (check out her shots) had her camera on hand and took some photos. All the burlesque shots are hers. The show was very entertaining. Kudos to these girls...I could not see myself on stage...I don't look good in women's' clothing anyway.

Looking back at the summer I realize that there was a shortage of good music around here. Seeing Social Distortion and Supersuckers in Spokane was great until I got chucked out half way through Social Dist. Its the second time I've been thrown out of the same club...Last time it was before Reverend Horton Heat started playing. The Venue has the most uptight security I've ever seen. It's because they have an all ages area and a bar. And before you say " that Lovewine must be a troublemaker" I'll also let you know that 5 out of 10 of us that went to the show got kicked out...all for different reasons. After driving 3.5 hours half our group got the boot. Not Cool! We've vowed not to go back there..the crappy part is that is the only place decent bands go to play..saw the Pixies there as well.

This Friday I'll be watching Tom Petty At the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Look out San Francisco...I'll be having dinner in SF tomorrow. I haven't been to SF since I was a little kid. Saw Disneyland on that trip. Now I want to get into the wine country...wine wine wine..yum yum yum. Luckily there's a bizillion wine bars in SF so I won't be going dry.

I've been drinking wine recently and its been great.
Here's some of my thoughts....
Las Rocas de San Alejandro/ Garnacha(Grenache)/ '04
This tasty Spanish red is ready for drinking. Bold in color and flavor. A few more of these in my cellar would be a good idea. Excellent grape on its own.
Campo Viejo / Crianza / '03
Another Spanish beauty....this rioja wine is fresh and nice to sip. The fruit is evident and the oak is subtle. I love the color of this wine. A couple of years in the cellar would be nice.
BV Georges De Latour / Private Reserve / Cab Sauv / 1996
This Beaulieu Vineyard Napa Valley Cab has been in my cellar for 3 years and in a Californian cellar since its release. Truly a pleasure to drink. I would like to drink a wine this complex and integrated everyday but I'm not rich so I have to choose my moments. One of my best wines of 2006.
Katnook / Coonawarra / Cab Shiraz '02
Another aussie blend with full jammy flavor. Its really good to drink, especially with tenderloin. I want a case in the cellar...drink them over the next 10 years.
Valdivieso / Syrah Reserva/ '04
The chillean wine is really coming of age. I enjoy the Valdivieso wines and this is no exception. Easy to drink...like its really ever hard to drink wine. It is young but will definitely improve if you can manage to sit on it.
Cono Sur / Viognier / '05
Chile again but this wine is all about summer. It took over 2 months for the liquor store to get more stock...I bought 6 right away. Its a limited release which explains the wait. The fruit is excellent and I want a sunny patio, some pears, a topless wine server...ok I'm getting carried away but its really good.
Sandhill / Cab Franc / '04
This stuff keeps getting better..I've had the '02 '03 and these folks really know what they're doing. It doesn't knock you over with too much fruit but gives distinct flavors in good turn. I want more!
Clos Du Bois / Cab Sauv / 2000
This came from my cellar and this was a nice drink. Not a high end Sonoma wine but with a little cellaring it created a more integrated set of flavors. Too bad there was only one.

I'm all typed out...its time to go skating...seriously, what kind of person learns to skate in their 30's...I'm a sucker for pain.

Days On The Lake

troupe, originally uploaded by Lovewine.

The days are colder but the skies are still clear. There was a trace of snow on the peaks after a brief storm. I'll be putting the boat (Daphne) to bed soon and I'm trying to get more time on the lake.

While I was pulled up on this beach a couple of friends of mine showed up on his catamaran. We had a beer then he took me for a quick sail. Get out and enjoy the weather before the rain comes.
